As the year draws to a close, Ayutthaya province stages its biggest event. Of course, this is the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya World Heritage Fair, which annually commemorates the glorious history of this ancient Thai capital. This year, the fair takes place from xx to xx December 2016.
The 10-day event has something for everyone and will feature a magnificent light and sound presentation that tells visitors about the past glories of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, along with exhibitions, cultural performances, folk music, concerts and singing competitions. It is possible to try local foods at the food stalls and enjoy the nostalgic atmosphere of a traditional floating market and traditional market.
The fair takes place within the UNESCO’s World Heritage Site at Ayutthaya Historical Park. If this is your first visit to the park, it’s well worth visiting the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum which currently features a special exhibition about the precious gold ornaments which were made in the Ayutthaya era. There are also fascinating displays that tell the story of the city.
Fairgoers can also get around the scattered historical sites taking the free tram that will be available throughout the 10-day event. Ayutthaya boasts many Buddhist temples worth seeing, but they can be spread out. The tram or bike is the best way to see as many of them as possible.
Ayutthaya has always been one of Thailand’s top tourist attractions and is a popular day trip from Bangkok. Now there are many boutique hotels, chic hostels, trendy cafes and fine-dining restaurants to explore for visitors and locals alike.
